The Origin Of Federal One

Talking about the origin of Federal One, it was set up in 1935 as a part of the Works Progress Administration. With the starting of Federal One Project, also known as the Federal Project Number One Project, the work on its five major sub-divided projects also got started. These five component projects of the Federal One were- the Federal Art Project, the Federal Music Project, the Federal Theatre Project, the Federal Writers Project and the Historical Records Survey.

With the starting of Federal Project Number One, each of its constituent projects was managed by a national director. A year after the origin of Federal One, the five national directors who were heading these projects met in Washington to discuss the performance of the project. Around forty thousand WPA artists and other cultural workers were provided jobs in these projects throughout entire nation of United States.

There is no doubt that the starting of Federal One was considered to be distinctive among all the measures taken by the U.S. government, before or since, trying to clear and accomplish broad public cultural goals. The creators of the Works Progress Administration, WPA discarded the idea of introducing program of subsidy for existing arts organizations. As a replacement for giving direct federal help to these institutions, the leaders of the WPA wanted to try new methods pf providing the due support from the government to the artists. In the end, the results of the projects were really good and it was believed that the Federal One projects were successful in providing a greater degree of national direction to American society and really helped artistes, musicians, painters and writers.

With the origin of Federal One, various WPA projects started in almost all places of US. Wherever there were unemployed artists in the country, they were benefited with the starting of Federal Project Number One. This project also had far reaching cultural impact which helped in bringing together the artist and also cultivated the interests of a public in arts.
